It felt a bit blowly at the bottom, but falconer was flying green hill, so I started to walk up big Tinto. It was clearly thermic, and having watched Falconer for a while felt confident enough with the conditions to launch. I took off half way up the hill, and before long I was up above hill height picking off the thermals from the scree. At one point I got a very good climb and followed it over the back and got some good height. It was probably the last of the day, so I aborted it and flew with speedbar back to the hill, just making it back and glad of it too! After about half an hour Tim Bridle turned up and flew up from Green Hill to join me, Ian turned up a little later. We had an excellent evening's soaring and good chat. The wind was so smooth and the perfect strength to top land, that we were messing around scraping our hands along the ground and trying to do the "high 5 fly by" a few times! It were a right laugh it were! Definitely worth the effort on a day that looked dubious... A promising weekend was ahead too. |
